Radiology And Medical Imaging Specialty

Training Program Regulations:
The program is spread over 4 years according to a specific schedule of training and must be completed in a training center accredited by the Arab Board. The trainee is not eligible to sit the final clinical & oral exam until after the satisfactory completion of the four years.
The curriculum is covered through didactic lectures and supervised practical training and covers the principles of radiation production and protection including  X-rays, US, MRI & Nuclear Imaging ;radiological anatomy and positioning  as well as clinical imaging of the various body systems and organs. Interventional radiology and out of hours emergency radiology form an integral part of the training. The trainee will be evaluated throughout the training course.
The curriculum is designed to gradually increase the level of knowledge and clinical responsibilities of the trainee. The Trainees are expected to provide consultations to medical colleagues, to take an active role in the clinico-radiological meetings, to participate in teaching of junior trainees and medical students and to participate in clinical research
The recommended training program is over 44 months may be tailored according to local practice and needs  and must include a minimum of the various components as follows:
1-General Radiology including emergency radiology, fluoroscopy and contrast studies of the GI & GU tracts: 10 months
2-Ultrasound to include Ob-Gyn, vascular & MSK: 7 months
3-CT: body, cardiac & oncological: 7 months
4-MRI: body , cardiac & MSK: 4 months
5-Neuroradiology: Including CT, MRI & angiography: 4 months
6-Nuclear Medicine: Including PET: 2 months
7-Pediatric Imaging: 3 months
8-Breast Imaging: 1 month
9-Vascular & interventional: 4 months
10-Elective: 2 months
11-30 on call shifts over 4 years
The trainee is expected to complete an advanced course in life support (ACLS) in the first year of training and maintain certification throughout the period of training
