Pediatrics Specialty

1-  The training duration is 4 years for trainees to be specialists. He must spend this duration as a resident in one or more than one hospital which is accredited by the scientific council. The residence duration should not be less than 6 months.

2-  The trainee should be resident during the training period, his responsibilities should be graded according to years of residency. Night shifts should not be less than twice a week.

3-  The trainee should attend lectures, theoretical lessons, scientific sessions and other scientific activities which is done in the training department or in other departments.

4-  The training should be done in 4 years as follows:

-  One year or more is taken in a different specialty other than pediatric medicine in the center accredited by the councils of (Internal Diseases, Dermatologic Diseases, General Surgery, Obstetrics and Gynecology, Radiology, Laboratory and Scientific Research). This must be equivalent to 3 months in clinical residency for the first year level.

-  Two years or more of full training in one of the subspecialties of pediatric medicine in the training centre accredited by the councils of (Neonatal and Premature Diseases, Genetic Science, Hematologic Diseases…..). This is considered as one year in clinical residency for the second year level.

-  Attending the study course in other residency years is not considered a replacement for a residency period.

 

The Training Schedule in Pediatric Medicine for 4 Years:

 

The first year:

2 months in Neonatal and Premature department.

3 months in Emergency and outpatient clinics.

6 months in different pediatric sections.

1 month as a yearly vacation.

 

The Second Year:        

2 months in Neonatal and Premature department.

3 months in Emergency and outpatient clinics.

6 months in different hospital section.

1 month as a yearly vacation.

 

The Third Year

2 months in Neonatal and Premature department.

3 months in Emergency and outpatient clinics.

3 months in different pediatric sections and one month in pediatric intensive care.

1 month in Primary Health Care.    

1 optional month in one of the subspecialties.

1 month as a yearly vacation.   

 

The Fourth Year:   

2 months in Neonatal and Premature department.

3 months in different pediatrics sections and one month in pediatric intensive care.

3 months in Primary Health Care.    

2 optional months in one of the subspecialties.

1 month as a yearly vacation.
